Hi,
The 49th anniversary of the last steam powered freight train on the Gainesville Midland Railroad and in Georgia occurs on June 10. Just in case you are interested, the year was 1959.

Hi,

GM 209 pulled the last freight. It was cosmetically restored in 2004.

The only GM steam powered fan trip was pulled by #203 (now at the Southern RR Museum) and #301 (now used as a kid's jungle jim in Charlotte, NC) in 1959. The steam powered passenger was the first fan trip for the fledgeling Atlanta Chapter NRHS.

The Atlanta Chapter did operate S&A 750 over the GM mostly to turn the locomotive on the GM wye. I have a short movie clip of riding the 750 over the Southern diamonds on the GM from one of the fan trips. One of these days, I'll get it transferred from super-8 to DVD and be able to share it.
