A friend of mine who has a slight penchant for pulling my leg once in a while told me that there is an FA in Scranton. Can anyone confirm one way or the other?

Its plausible in that the D-L is an alco heaven and does some contract work.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Mike

Yes, it is a former VIA Rail unit, now privately owned by "Vintage Locomotive Corporation". It arrived New Years Eve on train PT 97 from Portland. For the time being it is stored in the South Scranton yard.

The unit came from the Norhtern Central operation that shot down in New Freedom and remains in VIA colors.

Can you tell me what number it is 67_ _ ?

I shot a lot of those guys in 1987 in our "F-Units Winter in Canada" video, and am now working on resurrecting and re-editing our old video "VIA F's In The Rockies". Canada has always been the last stronghold of older power it seems.

As another point of interest, I understand the remaining older FP9's are nearly finished as well!

The image below is former VIA 6780 as B&O 800 On the Western Maryland Scenic in 1994. The unit is now on the Cuyahoga Valley I am told. More useless trivia!

Post subject:  Not an FA Re: ALCO FA in Scranton?

I think the D-L guys told me it is a storage deal, but even though she is painted like an FA, she is not one.

The unit is an FPA4, built by MLW.

There are a handful of ALCo FA's in PA, but none of them are in the upper anthractie field.
