Very interesting and appropriate subject for us to consider. There is a great deal of art that relates to railroad/transit history that has been overlooked by many museums. One of the most interesting exhibits that I have seen was a temporary exhibit at the New York Transit Museum which explored the architecture and design of NYC subway stations. NYTM also features art and small artifact related exhibits in their location at Grand Central Terminal.

We actually go a bit further than just art exhibits. At the North Carolina Railroad Museum (NCRM) we have established an Artist-in-Residence program, bringing one artist each year into our work to allow them to capture the essence of it. The premise for this is we recognize art as a valid means to interpret the past for the future. We have had photographers in the program, of course, but also painters and an incredible charcoal artist. Our current Artist-in-Residence is a dancer working on a project to interpret "The Railroad" (that is the concept of a railroad rather than a specific railroad) in dance. The resulting original work should be rather interesting when she is done.

Not a real New Haven RS-1. DRM 0673 is ex-Green Mountain RR 400, originally built for the Illinois Terminal Railway. Still a nice looking locomotive anyway.
