Well, that's an over-simplification.......

Phillip Anschutz, the ex-D&RGW tycoon, is buying Xanterra (formerly Amfac, in a previous life The Fred Harvey Co.), owner of the Grand Canyon Railway.

The employees were told last Friday. Only six day delay not bad. An employee is impressed.

Wow. Xanterra runs all National Park concessions, it's a huge company!

Comment by others…. “Xanterra runs all National Park concessions”… not all, Yosemite, Grand Tetons and other parks are run by others… They do run most of the Grand Canyon, the Utah parks, Yellowstone and other (Railroad content… these were previously operated by Harvey (Santa Fe) UP, or Great Northern…

Anschutz was previously the primary owner of the Rio Grande and later the Southern Pacific Railroad prior to the merger with UP.... I believe he still owns the "Ski Train"

In the San Francisco area he reportedly controls the San Francisco Examiner. A surprisingly good local free paper (a conservative paper in a markedly liberal area)
