Hey guys, I haven't posted on the RYPN since 2004, and I've missed it. So I am back. Anyway I have a question, does anyone here have any contact information for the Silver Lake Railroad in New Hampshire? I've checked on the web and I can't find any numbers or websites?

Not being New Englander, i haven't even heard of this railroad. Maintaining a low profile is an marketing strategy, wonder how it is working out?

I really don't know how this is working out for them. Right now the only evidence I can find on them is the photos link in the post above and a newspaper article. I know low key is ok but I think that if you want to make a go at the train ride you would want to get the word out some way.

I believe that he is relying on word of mouth, cheaper that way.

A number of pictures of the Silver Lake have been posted on the NERAIL photo archive. Most are of various critters - they look like they were most recently at Edaville.

However, this Porter 0-4-0 caught my eye:

Any ideas where it came from? Looks like its had some "uninformed" restoration.

Most of the diesels were at Edaville when Jack Flagg was involved with the operation. When he left the diesels went to the Beaver Brook transportation museum, in Mt. Vernon, NH. That museum recently closed down and was in the process of selling off thier collection. Most likely the steam engine came from there.

llpowt more later. Rode this newly extended ride today. Great place being done right. No rusty scrap yard. Ridership was very strong. There was a speeder event, too, but the train riders were definitely just there to pick daisies. Probably 75 on the noon trip. The operation is very can-do and they are doing it!

I may be able to help with some of your questions. For some information of slrr, look on nerail, or wikipedia. I also put a vedio on youtube of slrr, titled Silver Lake RR. It's in the town of madison nh, and runs a forty minute ride through the madison chain of ponds. It does not currently run by silver lake, but the ride goes through the the valleys, lakes and rivers, on what is a very "beautiful" ride. They are not finished with the railroad, and have many more projects to tackle on. they are turning a diner they have into an ice cream parlor, and are working with the state to run a second train on the other side of the road to go by the lake for a 20 min, or so ride. they have one more a-6 to fix up, and run another passenger train, and one a-8 (seen in the back yard) The new A-6 should be up and running by next year. SLRR is a non profit organization, run completely by volenter. If you live near, take a ride. 4th of july weekend to labor day weekend, two weekends of fall foliage (usually in october/late september) when the color comes out, the weekend before halloween (halooween train @ night), and halooween night.
