| Post subject: | Will Ambrose passed away from Leukemia. |
HI All, It is a sad day when I have to report that a long time friend to the RR community Will Ambrose passed away from Leukemia. A mechanical engineer by education Mr. Ambrose started with the Santa Fe working west out of Winslow. He truly loved trains and started working with the simulator program that the AT&SF was developing including spending a lot of time filming different districts of the RR. Mr. Ambrose even taped the Grand Canyon Branch for training purposes and I know he used it for locomotive engineers out of Amarillo, TX. I had the pleasure of working with one such employee that he trained as a locomotive renter on the Nevada Northern. Will was one of the most kind and intelligent railroaders I meet. He understood both the technical and the human aspects of railroading. I first meet him while working at the GCR (he ran 18 on September 17, 1989 the inaugural run of the GCR). Between late1998 and early 2000 he made six trips to China working on diesel locomotive gearing. We discussed this as he and his wife were returning to Williams by rail after celebrating their sixtieth wedding anniversary. The RR world has lost a great individual. Robby |
