Excursion Sat. Aug 16th on Ex-EL Lines to Benefit ELDCPS

The Erie Lackawanna Dining Car Preservation Society is sponsoring a "joy-ride" excursion over most of NJ Transit's former Erie Lackawanna commuter lines on Saturday, August 16, 2008. Featuring two Morristown & Erie private cars, this round-trip excursion will begin at Hackettstown/Mt. Arlington and travel to Suffern, traversing the Morristown, Boonton-Montclair, Main and Bergen County Lines.

A stopover in Hoboken will include a walking tour of Hoboken Terminal and the surrounding area, provided by the Hoboken Historical Society.

Lunch and an afternoon snack will be provided on board the train.

Locomotives will be provided by NJ Transit.

Free parking is available at Hackettstown and Mt. Arlington stations.

Tickets are $119 per person ($109 for ELDCPS Members) and can be purchased online at http://www.eldcps.org/store/product.php?productid=174.
Proceeds will go towards the restoration of Erie Lackawanna Diner 741

Tentative Schedule :

Leave Hackettstown 11:00 a.m.
Pick up at Mt. Arlington 11:20 a.m.
Run to Suffern via either the Morristown or Montclair-Boonton Line and either the Main Line or Bergen County Line.
Run Suffern to Hoboken via whichever line we didn't take up.
Stop at Hoboken - Detrain for a walking tour of Hoboken Terminal and the surrounding area provided by the Hoboken Historical Society.
Run Hoboken to Mt. Arlington - arrive approx. 4:40 p.m.
Arrive Hackettstown approx. 5:00 p.m.

Departure Times are approximate, and may be changed +/- 30 minutes by NJ Transit. Exact times will be finalized two weeks before the trip

Is this the same weekend that the M & E private cars are going between New York and Pittsburgh? Does this replace that longer trip that was to use "Ohio River"?

The M&E has quite a few private cars at its disposal - more than one charter can operate at the same time. At this time the specific cars being used on the ELDCPS trip have not been finalized.
