A new feature at http://www.essexsteamtrain.comis the Enginehouse Blog.
Recent postings cover the new Oliver Jensen Gallery and the first exhibit : "Faces of Essex Steam Train & Riverboat, repainting GE 80 tonner No. 0900, behind the scenes with Indiana Jones, etc.

Coincidentally, I'll be visiting Essex in a few days, and was happy to see some background given regarding the filming of Indiana Jones at the facility.

Great to see this kind of outreach, Mr. Conrad. I'd like to see more organizations utilize a "blog" format to chronicle the perpetual (and often unshared) workload behind historic rail preservation/operation.

There are several blog updates for IRM, accessed through our main website at www.irm.org. Click on the DEPARTMENT BLOGS link on the main page. In an unabashed plug, I try to post news on a regular basis for my area which is the Freight Car Department and includes a lot of entries for specific car projects and our Woodworking shop. I try to make it as much like a mini newsletter as the software allows, including pics and upadtews and history of the projects on a limited basis. THe blogs include links or keywords direct to roster data, etc.

Bob -

Nice BLOG! How many guys do you have in the Freight Car Department there at IRM anyway? I counted up to 27 different folks and finally gave up! I am envious of your fine shop, but mostly of the myriad of people that help out.

We are probably the catch all department, willing to welcome anyone trying to 'break in' as a volunteer. As to the 27 people, many are in the woodshop doing projects for other departments including coaches, and electric cars. Again, we cross 'craft lines' with great regularity.

So, if any of you midwesterners want to stop in for a day, whether you want to sit back and rubberneck, or get your hands dirty and pitch in - - all aboard!
