Press release passed on at the request of Courtney Wilson, B&O Railroad Museum: Quote: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CONTACT: Stefanie Hare 410-752-2462, ext. 214 stefanie.hare@borail.org B&O Railroad Museum Implements New Affiliations Program Beginning in early 2008, the B&O Railroad Museum developed and implemented a new affiliations program. Three members have already joined the program and the museum is anticipating more as the outreach program matures. B&O Railroad Museum Affiliations was conceived in late 1997 as a way to form a mutually beneficial relationship with other railroad museums, societies, historic sites and institutions. The fee based program offers various benefits to its members. Among these are opportunities to share wholesale merchandise, trademark use, object loans and staff consultation. This program also offers an opportunity for mutual marketing of both the Museum and the Affiliate to visitors and members through its web site, brochure distribution and provides a consulting relationship invaluable for smaller and emerging railroad heritage sites and organizations. Among the programs already established members are The Garrett County Historical Society and Museum located in Oakland, Maryland. This Historical Society exhibits an impressive B&O Railroad collection and interprets other historical events and personages in this Maryland county named after B&O Railroad president John Work Garrett; The Grafton B&O Railroad Heritage Center which is housed in the recently restored 1911 B&O railroad station in Grafton, West Virginia. The B&O Heritage Center offers changing exhibits, lectures and other events centered on the B&O Railroads legacy in Grafton and West Virginia and the Town of Rowlesburg, West Virginia which owns The Depot Museum, a former B&O railroad freight and passenger station housing displays, artifacts, and a restored 1926 B&O caboose. B&O Railroad Museum Director Courtney B. Wilson stated "the enthusiastic response of our first Affiliates to the program has been very rewarding. Artifacts from our collections, many in storage for a long time, will soon be on their way for exhibits and programs with our affiliates. Lectures and other joint events are in the planning stages for later this year. It is my hope that this program will expand and flourish as formal relationships begin to network a host of great heritage sites with one another." Those interested in more information on the affiliate program can visit http://www.borail.orgor call 410-752-2490.
