Colorado & Southern narrow gauge equipment is well documented. Colorado & Southern standard gauge steam locomotives and diesels are well documented. Colorado & Southern streamline passenger equipment is documented. But I have found nothing on standard gauge heavyweight passenger equipment, cabooses or freight cars. Is there a source? Does anyone have any information?

If you have not already looked at it, there was a book published back in 1970 by the Intermountain [Denver] Chapter of the NRHS. This was "The Colorado Road:" History, Motive Power, & Equipment of the Colorado and Southern and Fort Worth and Denver Railways, by F. Hol Wagner, Jr.

No freight cars, but it has steam locomotives, passenger cars, motor cars, diesel locomotives, cabooses and miscellaneous equipment. The roster of passenger cars covers the steel heavyweight era.

Obviously, I didn't know about this book before.

A little background on why, living in Utah, I am interested in the standard gauge Colorado & Southern.

I grew up in Longmont, Colorado, served by the Colorado & Southern and Great Western. I knew railroads existed, but back then I had no idea which railroads served the town and didn't care. In the past few years I have developed an interest in the standard gauge Colorado & Southern, possibly because I realize now the interesting history I was witnessing back then.

The incident that triggered this inquiry happened last Saturday night on the Heber Valley Railroad. The Heber Valley Railroad acquired the Everett Rohrer collection in 1999. Included was a baggage car thought to be C&S, but, for some reason, no one seemed to be sure. Last Saturday, shortly before sunset, the light was just right and the old, original lettering was visible through all the paint applied in the last forty or so years. C&S 223 could be read on each end, Railway Express Agency was centered on the car. Now, it seems the car is a former Colorado & Southern baggage car.

"The Colorado Road:" History, Motive Power, & Equipment of the Colorado and Southern and Fort Worth and Denver Railways, by F. Hol Wagner, Jr. should have more history on this particular baggage car and C&S caboose 10593, also from the Everett Rohrer collection, at Heber City.

Now, any information on Colorado & Southern standard gauge freight equipment would be appreciated.
