I have visited the depot a couple of times (my parents live nearby) It’s a nice preservation by a local historical society with limited railroad history knowledge. They have a few badly identified photographs (I did speak to the “curator” mentioning that the locomotive in one was known to be long gone by the date identified in the caption only to be told “we don’t know much about the railroad”) The railroad line, originally narrow gauge, is traceable in the area, but with limited artifacts present (none from the narrow gauge years). The area has been a subject to development wiping out much evidence in recent years… Florida is a hot bed of small community museums, mostly house museums, but several have a locomotive or such. One real estate development 20 miles away have a wooden frame camp car on a wooded flat car frame, with link and pin drawbars, which they think is a Civil War era dinning car, but is more likely a camp car from a logging line, built on a 1890’s main line flat car. There is a love of history in the area, but it is frequently more emotional instead of academic… (Emotion in history can be good, but it has to have the basic academic review of facts…) |
