I understand the National Capitol Trolley Museum needs to move its operations. Does anyone know if this will increase or decrease the length of the trackage? |

I can't remember the precise comparable mileage between our old and new alignments, but it's more or less a wash. I beleive the new alignment is a touch longer-- it might add a tenth of a mile or so-- but basically it will still be a one-mile ride. What we are doing is abandoning the south half of our current line, retaining the north half, and then extending new track from the north end up a hill, onto a ridgeline, and then along the ridge to our new carbarn and visitors' center. The new track placed in service and the track abandoned on the South end basically offset one another. Perhaps my fellow NCTM member Wes can chime in with the exact figures... |

Brother Erik has the details correct. The new track is about the same length as the track being abandonded. I can't recall the exact detail, but the length is about 3/4 mile total, one way. We will be suspending operations at the end of November in order to facilitate reusing a large section of 80# rail from the abandoned portion of the line. Wesley |
