Someone recently asked about light rail in Ohio on Yahoo answers. I realized that while Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois were once covered with a dense spiderweb of interurbans... and while the last 25 years have seen a galaxy of new rail starts in America from historic streetcars to commuter rail... NOT ONE has occurred in any city in those four states. (setting aside St Louis, MO's system's branch into a corner of IL). The industrial midwest is like the final frontier for rail transit. |
