Post subject:  Western Maryland Shay 6 to Elkins.

I am a little late posting this, but around this time last month Cass Scenic Railroad (Western Maryland) Shay #6 made the 67 mile trip from Cass, WV to Elkins, WV. This was the first time a steam engine had been over the entire line in decades and the first time that a Cass Steam engine or any steam engine for that matter had been in Elkins since the 70's. The top speed of Shay 6 during the trip was just around 11 mph. Two photo runbys where made along the way. Shay 6 performed flawlessly throughout the trip. For those who missed this trip, we hope to make a similar one next year. The trip was sponsored by the Mountain State Railroad and Logging Historical Association, Cass Scenic Railroad, Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad and the West Virginia Central. Below are some photos from the historic trip.

Upon arriving in Elkins on July 13, Big 6 is greeted by hundreds.

Free night photo sessions where set up every night while 6 was in Elkins.
