I'm going back a while here, but I believe that I read that they wanted this engine to go to Baltimore in 2003?? How is progress going, last I heard the superheaters were being removed, haven't heard any updates in quite a while. While I'm on the topic, are there any other large ATSF engines undergoing restoration currently?

The boiler has been extensively ultra sounded, and found in good shape. Colorado Boiler of Denver inspected the engine, and reported that remaining boiler-work, which includes superheaters will cost much less than initial estimates, a boon for the grant-writing/funding process. Renovation of engine accessories [feedwater heaters, injectors, compressors, et al] is complete.
