| Post subject: | Union Pacific to the politcal conventions |
I thought I would start a new posting because the topic has changed: You have got to remember that there are TWO political conventions this year. The Republicans are in St. Paul and the Democrats are in Denver. Apparently the business cars are going to St. Paul, but no steam engine as the local officials up there feel they cannot accommodate a public display. The Trains Magazine "New Wire" on Thursday the 7th says in part: Quote: Union Pacific 4-6-6-4 No. 3985 will not make an appearance during the Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minn., next month after local government officials said they could not accommodate the train's public display. UP will still send office cars for entertainment during the convention. And the 844 and the business train are going to Denver. From the UP website http://www.uprr.com/aboutup/excurs/steamtr.shtml: Quote: August 20 – 28, 2008 Democratic National Convention – Denver, Colorado Locomotive No. 844 will be on public display during the four-day Democratic National Convention, August 25 – 28, in Denver. There are no excursions planned and a detailed schedule will be available later this month. September 18 – 22, 2008 North Platte Railfest Locomotive 3985 will be on public display at the North Platte Railfest celebration, Sept. 18-22. The site includes the current schedule for the operation of 3985 to North Platte and return. |
