| Post subject: | FEBT Rockhill work session Saturday and Sunday, August 16-17 |
The tenth FEBT Rockhill work session of 2008 will take place Saturday and Sunday, August 16-17, 2008. We will work from 9 am to 5 pm Saturday and from 9 am to 4 pm Sunday. We'll meet at the Rockhill shops at 9 am. This weekend features a number of special attractions. Included are the 6:30pm train on Saturday, the Civil War encampment, and the Community Appreciation Day festivities at the fairground, as well as a large lineup of craftspeople/vendors. There will be a lot of painting this weekend, so if you don't see one of your regular jobs listed down below, come wearing painting clothes! MEALS Breakfast both days and dinner Saturday will be available at the Iron Rail. Dinner Saturday will be at 5:30 so diners can catch the evening train. Please RSVP to me by Thursday evening at 10 p.m. if you plan to join us for any of these meals. There will not be any meals served at RTY this weekend. There should be a variety of service groups doing food at the fairgrounds across from the depot. BOXCAR 168 The boxcar has entered the home stretch. We will be laying additional floor, continuing the side woodwork, puttying and sanding screw holes, and also doing some painting. The last of the welding will be underway. Bring power drills, power sanders, grinders, and carpenter tools. Respirators for dust would be a good idea. We are now so far along that we are working on the car from all sides, so this crew can use extra hands this time. Lee Rainey will lead this project. STEEL CREW The steel crew will continue to assist with the painting of the boxcar. They will also be doing some brake beam work in support of the reassembly of the Combine 16 trucks in Strasburg, and will handle some repairs to the oil house roof. Steve Jacobs will lead this work. BOILERHOUSE The Boiler Rats will continue the amazing work of literally raising the long-sagging roof of the machine shop. You have to see this to believe it. A next step is the fabrication of the new 12x12 beam, which will be built up in place. Jim Bacon will lead this project. MAIN SHOPS On Saturday, this crew will prime the west wall of the locomotive shop, and as much of the sand house as time permits. On Sunday they will paint the west wall of the locomotive shop and as much of the sand house as time permits. Chris Coleman will lead this project. GARAGE Bill Adams will lead the work on the garage. The crew intends to replace the siding on the south wall and install trim boards on all sides as needed. They will also re-attach the radiator to the north wall. Bill says the alternate plan for bad weather is to enjoy the new roof by working under it to locate, excavate, build footings for, and place three intermediate floor sills. WEATHER Visit www.accuweather.com and check the Rockhill zip code, 17249, for the latest weather. GROUND RULES To take part you must be 18 and a member of the FEBT (or join the FEBT at the work site.) These are insurance requirements. We are guests of the railroad and need to behave accordingly. Last-minute walk-ons are always welcome at our sessions, but if possible, drop me an email in advance to let me know that you are coming. It helps with the planning. See you there! |
