Being a diesel airhorn collector, I've been mounting some of them on the R&N. Locomotive fleet. This one is a Westinghouse (WABCO) E2-B1 model. I first heard one of these on the PRR. An Alco PA-1 #5753 which was assigned to the New York & Long Branch. Enjoy the video.

What a mournful sound--and isn't it marvelous to be able to hear it through the magic of YouTube!
Back in 1967 I was on a Santa Fe fantrip featuring back-to-back Alco PA's, going from Pasadena to Barstow and back. I remember the lead engine on the return portion had the most magnificent sounding horn set I've ever heard--like celestial harmony. The consist included ex-CP 599, a mountain observation car with two open-air sections (rather like a California-type streetcar) so the hardier passengers got an air-horn concert.

I think it's great that R&N leaves you put your horns on their locomotives, but just one request, please don't put one on 425, lol.

Talk a bout a blast from the past.

Len.
PS. it was nice meeting you at Haucks back on July 13th.

The Nathan M-5 perhaps the most melodious of the 1950 era horns. As heard on the Reading & Northern 3055.
