Aquired from IRM with no prime movers, now fully operational thanks to a donor BN/METRA E9A.

This is really an outstanding project. For such a major undertaking, it seems like this restoration was really under the radar. This B unit now looks to be more original than the one the UP has running with their 2 E9 A units. I would be interested to know more about the arrangement between IRM and W&S for restoring this unit.

Awesome! Is this the only "true" operating E9B unit in the US?

My mistake. I was told by a WSOR employee that it was gutted when it arrived.

In a historical note known to but a few, this B unit went from Michigan to IRM by way of CSX Transportation in 1990, and was hauled from AnnPere to Wyoming, Michigan in a freight train behind PM 1225, during tests in advance of the 1991 NRHS convention.

While on the Michigan Northern, it was briefly used to heat excursion cars on trains out of Cadillac. Some of these were the Southern coaches now being restored by the Bluewater Chapter, NRHS, at Saginaw, and it was attempted to use the steam-ejector air-conditioning on these cars. I always wondered if this was the world's last use of steam air. I'm told the coaches were successfully cooled to 125 degrees F using this unit.

The history of WSOR's E-Units (and other locos) can be found at the following link, in case anyone's interested in their history: http://www.trainweb.org/locollection/index2.html
