This is a mutually beneficial arrangement that would have, in different iterations, application with other museums. College students are usually looking for internships (aka "real world experience"), and a rail museum has finance, public relations, restoration, curatorial, and personnel issues that could use student help.

Interns, however, need oversight. Before contacting universities, community colleges, or vo-tech schools, museums must have someone ready and accessible to guide and approve student work. Many colleges require critiques as well, and students appreciate a letter of commendation for him/her to show to future employers.

Traditionally, interns worked "for the experience," but nowadays they expect some kind of remuneration such as a stipend, lunch money, and/or gasoline. Be sure to have an understanding on what's expected before committing to an internship program.
