WWII photo, with a woman operating the overhead crane at the SP Bayshore Shops, south of San Francisco, part of which still stands in very derelict condition. http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages/sho ... 0&format=0 |

I am not certain, but I believe this photo shows the inside of the steel and brick Erecting Hall which was torn down a long time ago. The 17-stall roundhouse still stands. Half of the building is relatively intact, while the other half has all of its wood columns, beams, and roof destroyed by fire. The 9(?) bay steel Boiler Shop building is intact, and in reasonably good shape. It has been occupied by the same charcoal manufacturing company since shortly after the shops closed in 1954. There is a fair amount of foundations and such on the site as well. There is an effort underway to see that some of this history is saved in one form or another. The Erecting Hall briefly appeared in Harold and Maude as the interior of an artist's studio. I would love to see or hear more about these buildings. Thanks |
