It was stored at Ft. Scott, KS for many years, then taken to Springfield, MO and cut up late in the game. I think it was the last steam engine on the property when it was cut up. Darned shame, it was a good engine. I don't know if it was to be donated or not, had never heard that. Frisco did donate 4 of them though. I always wished they had saved some of the engines that they had built at Springfield shops, like a 4300. 4400 and maybe a 4-6-4. Shouldn't grumble though because the Frisco saved quite a few engines for a road their size, including my favorite, 1522. |
