My wife and I took our 7 year old grandson to Strasburg on Saturday. We bought the Farm Fun Pass. It was a nice backdrop to be at the Corn Maze and have the trains pass at Groff's as a backdrop. I also like the appearance of "Strasburg" in silver lettering on the tender of GW 90. In addition to the train ride, our grandson liked the cranky cars. The combo ticket with the railroad and Cherry Crest Farm was appreciated. Our grandson loved all of the activities at the farm. For the adults, our trip through the corn maze itself was a bit tedious, highlighted only when we were spooked by the whistle of a passing Strasburg train.

This brings me to my question. How/when did the L&OS ghost train schitck get started? While the conductor's expanation is a bit corny ($27 paycheck?), the effect has always mesmerized any of my younger guests on the train. Our grandson bought it 100 percent, as did my cousin's son a few years ago. And I seem to recall it dates back years before that, along with hobos in the woods at one time?

Thanks to Linn, Kelly, and their colleagues for maintaining a consistent enterprise over so many years.

They were doing the whistle echo and talking about the hobo jungle in the woods when I first started riding around 1970. I didn't think the narrative had changed much since then, but this year I realized that the hobo jungle wasn't mentioned. I wonder why? The bit about paying the echo is a recent addition.
Yes, Strasburg does a super job in all respects.
