here's the description:
Quote:
I purchased this sign at an estate sale. This is the second of two signs he had. I was told that this was an original switch railroad sign that may have been a spring switch sign. I am not sure of the railroad company that this sign was from. It is a heavy porcelain and measures 9" in diameter. The person that I bought it from said he thought it was from the 1920s or 1930s. As you can see, the sign has a red "S", white on both sides, with the white being edged in black. The back is solid red. The porcelain has minor chipping around the 2 pre-drilled holes at the top and bottom. This is a beautiful sign.

Don't I recognize this as more likely being from a rubber-tired grocery trolley (aka a shopping cart) of the 1950s or 1960s.

On a more serious note: I guess this points out the importance of your survivors understanding what exactly is in your collection...or maybe even better yet de-access prior to your "departure".

That looks like the Safeway Supermarket logo.

pretty much matches the logo "S" on my Safeway Club Card.......... and no railroad would use a stylized "S" on a safety-related sign..............

That's ridiculous. I've sent an email informing the seller with links to a pic of an old Safeway sign using the same logo.

IF it's an honest seller, they'll change/cancel their listing. Some people collect memorabilia from defunct grocery stores- it might even be worth more if it's properly identified.
