Post subject:  Jesse James engine

This is Dardanelle & Russellville 8, during the filming of the 1939 movie Jesse James. The depot is lettered Liberty, Missouri, but back of photo says it is actually Noel, Missouri. Engine is lettered for the St. Louis Midland RR. After years if ownership by the movie studios, the locomotive was acquired by Short Line Enterprises in the 1970s and subsequently operated on the rebuilt V&T and Sierra before ending up at the Nevada State RR Museum at Carson City, where it still operates. It was a coal burner until SLE ownership, which converted it to oil with an oil tank from one of the V&T engines that had been restored to woodburning status.
