http://zip06.theday.com/blogs/east_have ... useum.aspx Cool! I wonder if any other rail museums collaborate with service clubs. There are a lot of them; i.e. Rotary, Lions, Kiwanis, Optimist, Pilot, Exchange, JayCee, Zonta etc. Looks to me like a win-win situation. Sloan |

Sloan WRM has collaborated with local organizations for several years in operating a Pumpkin Patch. We provide transportation to a grove of trees near the end of our electrified line, and local service clubs operate the pumpkin patch. There is food, entertainment, and pumpkins available for sale. It is operated for the three weekends before Halloween. We raise our admissions fee by $2 per head and contribute that to the service clubs. The clubs keep their profits also. Last year they were able to offer a couple of substantial scholarships based on the revenue. And we get about 30% of our operating budget from the 3-weekend event. It started as a local event to raise funds to restore the historic Shiloh Community Church which is near our ROW. The locals now have enough money for that project, so the local Rotary Clubs are operating it for scholarship funds. http://www.wrm.org/events/upcoming_events.htm |
