We have received all the brass castings from the foundry we require for BCER 1225.
We sent some extra pieces to a polisher and the amount of pieces we require. this was done to get some idea of how much it might cost us to get the pieces to a polished condition; needless to say it was a shock. It was explained that if we could get the casting grit off then it would take less time for a polisher to do the job.
My question is how might we get each piece to that state. There are many pieces with hard to reach areas, but we do have many types of sanders and a die grinder. Any help would be appreciated.

Years ago, I polished a reproduction L&N locomotive number plate for an individual. He had it sand cast, and never did anything with it. I used a lot of sand paper, slowly working my way down to a finder grit to achieve a nice product to take to the polisher.

I would imagine that nothing more than some elbow grease would get the job done. Mr. Kutella has had some brass parts cast recently, I believe he may be able to shed some light on the subject.

We generally have castings tumbled to clean them.

Place castings in a large drum, place either iron balls or similar media in drum, tumble until clean.
