| Post subject: | Site development at IRM |
Several new site developments have occurred recently, or are in progress, at the Illinois Railway Museum. The largest is the erection of the museum's ninth storage barn, Barn 11, near the south end of the property. If memory serves this barn is the largest built at IRM so far, edging out Barn 9, where the Nebraska Zephyr and most of the steam collection is kept. A second new feature is the installation of an antique-style billboard from Chicago along the museum's streetcar loop, behind the trolley bus barn area, advertising service on the CTA's "West Side Subway." And finally, a third exterior neon sign from the museum's collection has been restored, mounted and lit. This time it's a "NORTH SHORE LINE" sign from that railroad's Milwaukee terminal. Photos of Barn 11 construction now in progress, and the new billboard, are here (see 9/13 and 9/15 entries), and photos of the North Shore neon sign are here. Enjoy! |
