http://www.galvestonrrmuseum.com/grrm_081.htm Warning: a LONG slow-loading slide show; don't try it on dial-up. Quick verdict from the photos: Nowhere near as bad as you might think from the news coverage of the storm's aftermath, but still pretty bad and going to set them back pretty far. Now, who was talking post-Mid-Continent about a "hit squad" for emergency stabilization? I sure wouldn't recommend it just yet--my emergency-personnel sources down there say it's logistically as bad as post-Katrina but not getting the 24-hour-disaster cable news coverage--but it's still something to consider. |

...just goes to show, no matter how diligent we are at preservation of our historic treasures, mother nature can flush all that work and money down the drain in a day or two. |

Thanks for posting these - NRHS had a BOD meeting there last fall and I'm glad we went when we did. The damage to the rail equipment doesn't seem to be as bad as I expected, but it's not an understatement to say the task of getting things back to normal is more than overwhelmingly ! Bob H |
