This unit, albeit in emasculated form(sans main generator), appears to be safely nestled within the bosum of Southern Appalachia Railroad Museum:

When the B&O Museum deaccessioned and sold it ca. 2002 they said it was sold with a no scrapping covenant. Looks like their word was good.

Credit should be given to Ron Delavan of RMDI in Pittston, PA, for keeping this unit at his facility and not turning it into razor blades. Yes, it did give up its 598 main gen, but is apparently otherwise intact (or was when I saw it at RMDI a few years ago). Over the last 10+ years, Ron has been helpful in keeping RMNE's vintage diesel fleet going, with advice, parts and other things.
