We just completed and ran this past weekend our new open car built atop a PRR flatcar.

We loaded it with hay and are using it on our Pumpkin Junction train as a hay wagon car. Loads of fun to ride it!

Come ride the flat car out to our Crazy Train Corn Maze--shaped like a 4-4-0.

That is awsome. Is it there to stay for good?

Nice looking tourist train. This may be the future for our historic railroad museums. Provide some events, fun trains, things that are seasonal, or special event oriented. Get their attention. Make them have fun. Spooky/haunted/halloween/pumpkin trains are coming up, then Santa/Polar Express. We'll start next season with an Easter bunny, throw mamma on the train, an antique car show, maybe a Thomas or Little Engine (or your own blue-faced engine) day, and maybe a music festival.

It seems like that event oriented schedules are what is working for revenue-dependent museums. I am just curious how a historic mission can successfully overlap it? Where do we say or show something educational? I hope that part can be made fun too. Hopefully the volunteer staff can make a good connection with the public. I know many rail museum experiences are pretty dry. A barn can be like a long walk down a hallway with many doors - all closed. Sometimes, creative displays will stop and capture visitor's attention. But did they learn anything? Do they now really care about what you are doing? Well, if it is fun, and nice enough, at least they will recommend it to friends, even if they don't "get it." And you now have enough cash to survive another winter, or at least most of it, you think.
