Post subject:  turntable needed in Nebraska

The Heartland Railroad Heritage Society needs a turntable for its former CB&Q roundhouse project at Nebraska City, Nebraska. The last one there was 69'9" long, a deck girder type, with the bridge tapering from the center to the ends. This is to be an authentic restoration of the facility, which was built in 1884. Does anyone have any leads? Also need advice on installing a turntable back in an existing pit. As turntable clearances are close, finding of and installation at exact dead center is a must.

Thanks. That one is a through-girder type, different than the one needed. Fine for a non-historic location, however, which is what most rail museums are.

The Colorado Railroad Museum just installed a turntable in a brand new pit. They turn it by hand so they must have it balenced right! They are at (800) 365-6263. Good Luck!

In a new pit is no problem, because the table can be installed first, then the pit constructed around it. Installing a different turntable in an existing pit is another matter. The Como and Willamantic sites are at this stage now, but neither has completed the task yet.
