Hi all,
I was to the Teddy Roosevelt Whistle Stop event at Strasburg Railroad this past weekend. The man who played Teddy Roosevelt "Gib Young" did a wonderful job, he not only looked the part he even sounded like The Late Mr. Roosevelt.
Here are the videos, I took from this event.
Hope you enjoy them.

Len.

I know that there were a few cylinder recordings made of Roosevelt late in his life but I was unaware that his voice was something that would be generally recognized today like Winston Churchill or his distant cousin FDR.

I can do a great Millard Filmore voice...

TR had a shrill, high pitched voice, which he would raise to a strain when particularly angered or outraged. While in the New York State House, he was remembered as walking to the podium and yelling "Mistah Speek-ah!" He had a commanding presence. I would recommend "Mornings on Horseback" as a good biography of his early life. BTW, TR is usually included on scholarly short lists of the ten best Presidents.

I've spent a lot of time reading on Roosevelt and his life. A real man's man, no question. I wish I could have been in the area, I could have played a "Rough Rider Veteran" if they needed extra folks in period clothes. http://www.freewebs.com/willysmb44/LeeRRblue.jpg He often traveled with veterans of the 1st Volunteer Cavalry and received them at the white house and later in private life. TR has the unique distinction of being the only man to ever be President of the US, a Nobel Peace Prize winner as well as being awarded the Medal of Honor (in 2001 for the charge up "Kettle Hill").

Since some of you are strong TR fans, I commend to your reading enjoymnent River of Doubt

http://www.amazon.com/River-Doubt-Theod ... 859&sr=1-1

No trains, but a rivetting account of TR's exploits in unexplored Brazilian jungle.
