The wnderful series on locomotives lost, buried, or sunk reminds me of one I learned of back in 1988. My wife and I were going to Alaska on the Alaska State Ferry with stops at various ports between Seattle and Skagway. As an organist and organbuilder, and because no one had then disseminated a listing of Alaska organs, I was trying to find out about as many as possible. At each stop I interviewed local residents on the dock. For a time there was a ranger on board talking about the passing scenery. He kindly announced my search to the entire boat. A lady standing near me said she knew of no organs but she had a steam locomotive in her front yard she would like to get rid of and would I be interested in that? I said I would. She said she lived on the Kougarok Road about 15 miles north of Nome. Her late husband acquired a 3' gauge 0-6-0 many years earlier. Perhaps this is the one listed for Nome in J. David Conrad's directory but that seemed to be in the city itself. I told several people about it but we didn't have RyPN in those days to help spread information. I've never heard since what if anything may have happened to this old engine. Anyone know?
