I was looking at some of the rail museums in the UK on Google Earth (Yes it is slow night at work).

There is a VERY large train-shed like building near the end of the line in Kidderminster.
It looks like the size of a zepplin hanger! It's 4 tracks wide and about .2 miles long.

Is this storage for their trains or something else?

Thanks to anyone who can answer this question for me!

"Is this storage for their trains or something else?"

The building you describe is the Kidderminster Carriage Shed, built within the last ten years or so with (mainly) National Lottery funding.

Capacity is approximately 52 coaches, each approximately 60-65 feet long. The SVR maintains six operational passenger car sets (two GWR, one LMS, one LNER, and two BR), each of which typically contains seven or eight coaches with spares held in reserve, so even with a four-track shed a fifth of a mile long, there's not room for everything.

Thanks guys!

I just have to say.... What a huge building for a preserved railway!

Bluebell railway has a project under way now called Operation Undercover.
In my opinion, this is the most important theme in preservation now.
All the restoration in the world goes downhill the day the equipment is
parked outside even if it never turns a wheel.
Sure, in the American southwest or perhaps in South Africa, this is
less of a problem but in the temperate climates it is vital.
Not to forget the increasing problems with thieves and vandals.

I was intrigued by the use of the term "Zeppelin hangar"--that was the nickname applied to Barn 7 (now designated the Ron Ruffulo Car House) at Orange Empire Ry. Museum by an air-minded member. Out in Perris, we don't get much rain, by the sun is no friend of railway preservation either. It doesn't take many years for solar radiation to change a "Big Red Car" into a "Big Pink Car".

Gold Coast RR Museum in Miami uses a real blimp hangar. Impressive building.
