Eureka & Palisade 4-4-0, dressed as CP Jupiter, probably for the 1939-40 World's Fair? Now the pet of attorney Dan Markoff, Las Vegas, still operable.

Nope. But, it is built by Baldwin to the same design as the "Eureka." They are sister locomotives.

The engine in the picture and used at the exposition held on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay is Nevada Central #5, ex-North Pacific Coast #12 and is currently a central attraction at the California State Railway Museum.

There is a third locomotive built to the same design and it is the Santa Cruz RR "Jupiter" now part of the collection of Smithsonian. Dan's "Eureka" built in 1875 for the Eureka & Palisades is the only operable one of the three.

Did you guys know that the CRRM Sacramento has the full set of Baldwin "Original Builders Drawings" for the; North Pacific Coast #12?

Well, they do. This is one set of only a few sets in existence for any 4-4-0 and the only set for any loco this old, and also for a 3' gauge 4-4-0.

The blueprints were purchased from Baldwin by my old buddy Eric Thomsen in the late 1950's. When Eric decided that he did not want to build this loco, he donated them to the CRRM.

So this set of blueprints is ythe only choice for the frustrated steam fan out there that has always wanted to build your own 3' gauge livesteam 4-4-0 and do it accurately.

I really like these old Baldwin 4-4-0's 3-foot gauge wood-burners.
