Probably in the 1950s, at the WP shops in Oakland? Now dismantled at Sacramento.

At that time it would have been owned by the California-Nevada Railroad Historical Society. That group had obtained it in 1938 from a logging operation and would in 1972 transfer it to the Pacific Locomotive Association.

PLA would later start work to restore the locomotive, but then trade it to California State RR Museum. The locomotive is the only remaining ex-Central Pacific, company-built locomotive existing and hopefully will be displayed within the building it was built.

Several years ago, I was part of a special tour into the ex-CP/SP shops and saw the locomotive. It was essentially intact, but without its cab and other woodwork.

One other CP shop built locomotive exists and it is the V&T "Dayton." I think there are four Sacramento-built locomotives from the SP era that are displayed.
