I was wondering if anyone has photos of the SAL RR Baldwin Centipede diesels in the dead line or being scrapped at Jacksonville, FL ? Did #4500 the first BLW centipede retain it's unique paint scheme to the very end ? Thanks in advance. Kevin Kohls |

SAL had 14 Centipedes, #4500-4513. Actually, Seaboard beat the PRR on deliveries -- No. 4500 was the prototype; it and several of the rest of the group were delivered before the Pennsy order. But, sadly, I can't help with photos. Herb Harwood |

Trains mag published articles and/or photos of the centipedes in May 1962 and May 1982, but did not show 4500 in anything other than its original paint. So unfortunately those two sources don't answer your question. It seems unlikely that the more complicated original scheme would have survived the simpler black and wide yellow stripe scheme used on the others. |
