CPR 3100

Is in this group of photos, probably when relatively new. It looks just about like that today at Ottawa.

3100 is one of only two Northerns Canadian Pacific had. They both survive today. 3100 is at the Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa. 3101 is a park engine on display in Regina, Saskatchewan. I do know 3101 was inspected by the CPR for possible return to service a couple of years ago, but I don't think it went any further than that.

Of the two, 3100 is in excellent shape, at least externally, and indoors, to boot! Given that restoration would involve a full tear down, I'd opt to have 3101 restored. Interesting thought regarding a CPR restoration of big steam, ala' Union Pacific.
