Not any longer; hasn't been for several years. It was parked next to the Science Museum in Hermann Park; when they decided to build the IMAX theater in the 1990s (I think), and the museum needed more parking space; the Carter family took the engine back. It is my understanding it is back on family property in Camden.

James,

That is my understanding also. For more about this locomotive, visit my story Iron Horses Put Out to Pasture (http://railroadglorydays.com/mcsa" target="_blank).

A great photo essay, Glen. Thanks for putting it together.

It is great that all of the W.T. Carter engines survived; most of them well cared for in good homes.

James -

What about #14 itself? Supposedly "the Carter family took it back" and it's now on family property in Camden. On public display? Well cared for? Offered for sale? Or is the family possibly even willing to donate it (again)?

Les;

The answer to all of the above is "I don't know."

Camden, TX is a tiny crossroads town centered around the sawmill. I have gone to Camden once or twice to see if I could find it; you would think it would be easy to spot, but I didn't see it. (Looked on W.T. Carter road; seemed like a logical place.)

Someone else on the web posted pictures of it on the Carter property in Camden; so my guess is that if you can find it, you may be able to get permission to see it. Most, if not all of the Carter engines are in good shape; many of the display ones are now under cover. #14 appears to be stored in an open field surrounded by pine trees; but in the pictures I saw; it looked about like I remember it the one time I saw it behind the fence in Houston.
