Hi,

With the start up of the City of Dunwoody on December 1, 2008 here on the north side of Atlanta, The Dunwoody Railroad Museum (me) has been making contacts and discussing items with the Chamber of Commerce and one City Councilman.

Although the 1881 section house is on a 1/4 acre patch of land, the councilman asked about the price of a locomotive that would be typical of the era. I mentioned the 0-6-4t on Barnhardt's site as a ball park figure. Now he wants me to look into putting it (or something like it with 2-4 cars) in the 104 acre Brook Run Park.

I was wondering if anyone knows what might be available. The Roswell Railroad had two narrow gauge locomotives from 1880 to 1903 - an 0-4-0 and an 0-6-0 with slope backed tender. Between 1903 and 1921 the line was 56.5". It had an 0-6-0 and a 4-6-0.

I think any one of the three wheel arrangements would work. What might be available out there?

What size rail does your museum or operation use? Does anyone have an idea of track supplies cost (ties, spikes, rail, splice bars, etc).

Thanks for any input.

Got a couple ideas, Doug - drop me a PM and I'll get back to you.

Lee Tidewater Cypress #18 (currently an 0-6-0) is, I believe, available; photos here and here. Shoot me an e-mail for contact info if you're interested.
