The cabooses, PRR headend cars and NYC (?) headend car on Route 272 south of adamstown PA are for sale along with the adjacent building and land.

Looks like 3 N5c's, a baggage car, and I don't know what the other two are!

Those other two appear to be PRR BM70 class RPO cars.

Based upon what the owner painted the cars as, assuming they kept the original names.

1 ex-NYC full baggage car (friction bearings)
2 ex-PRR RPO cars (looks to be original markings that owner just painted over) (one had roller bearings, the other friction)

Three caboose
- All friction bearings
- two are just painted red, one rides on AAR trucks, the other on NYC trucks
- third caboose is painted as CR 46173R

All of the cabooses seem to have the original configurations, while the baggage cars seemed to have been almost completely redone internally.

It has been over a year since I last saw these cars, so I may not be remembering everything correctly.

I am not a nick picker or a rivet counter. However, I would like to pass along a quick identifying tip for PRR cabin cars.

N5 and N5b's have strait up and down cupolas like the ones in the aerial picture. N5c's and N8's have that classic Lionel sloped sided cupolas.

Just an FYI, and I don't mind even if you call them hacks! Oh! some might but I don't. LOL

Scott - thanks for the correction - I SHOULD have known that! I think I fooled myself by looking at the modified roof for the collision posts.

Hi,

I rode by again today. Although I was under the impression the site is for sale, the signage on site says FOR LEASE.

The NYC baggage car is on four wheel trucks stamped NYC. It looks like it may have been a coach early in life, judging by the rivet patterns. It and the PRR RPO's look very intact underneath.

The cabooses are a little rougher, but all in all, these 6 cars are very restorable and -dare I say- look like potential operation candidates.

Hey guys. I haven't been up to Adamstown in quite awhile so I could be mistaken, but aren't these cars landlocked? How easy would it be to get a truck & crane in there to fetch what you wanted? Just curious - unfortunately this would add another dynamic to possible acquisition. Seth

Pretty landlocked, yes, but 272 is a decent roadway, and the Interstate-standard US 222 and the Penna. Turnpike are within spittin' distance. Better to truck them all the way, or to Lancaster/Reading for re-railing.

Now MY question is, how did I manage to miss these things all the times I went past them over the years? (No, you can't blame Stoudt's Brewing Co. nearby--I've never managed to stop in there when it wasn't either closed or crazily mobbed.....)

There is so much for the railroad and brewery buff in eastern PA, who can keep count?

I did not realize Hershey Park has a northeastern style caboose until this weekend's visit. And I have yet to be over to see the Shirey collection in Giegertown or the Ottinger collection. Someday...
