Does anyone who went to the auction have any photos or comments about the condition of this car? Are the windows / interior intact? Was this car in excursion service at the end? Thanks for any help, David Farlow Whitewater Valley Railroad |

David, I don't believe this car was used the last year or two that the railroad operated. Going by memory, I think it had been in m/w service when it came to Knox & Kane, and they put seats of some sort back in it. The vestibule dutch doors (lower sections only) are sheets of plywood. David - Is the ex-NYC coach (K&K #215) a heavyweight? Any photos? Les |

Les, This is the only photo I've managed to find. I was hoping that someone might have been a "shutterbug" at the auction and took some that were a little more detailed of the interior / exterior. http://naphotos.nerail.org/showpic/?pho ... %26%20Kane Alan, I appreciate the note about the dutch doors as the originals would have been full doors. We are trying to evaluate some options on this car. David Farlow Whitewater Valley Railroad |

Would this have been a Boston & Albany commuter coach at one time? |

It started life as a "B&A humpback" as they were called, and then I think this one went to D&H in the late 50s, for Albany-area commuter service. If the K&K obtained this car from D&H, that is. There was another one of these that went B&A-NYS&W-private railfan ownership (including the "Otter Valley" in Vermont), and seems to have been washed ashore in the Mohawk & Hudson Chapter flotsam & jetsom. These were the cars that the NYC and Henry Dreyfuss used to make the streamlined 1936 "Mercury" train. Howard P. Old Roster Hollow, CT |

Howard, There's one in Lincoln, NH as well. And it is for sale. The car Lance Burak and Leslie Holloway started the Cafe Lafayette dinner train with was a humpback NYC commuter car. It is still on their roster, though it is no longer the only car they have. According to this site, the operation is for sale for $1.1 million. http://www.polimenorealty.com/nh_businesses_for_sale_listings.php When I last rode, the car and the food were top notch. [quote="robertjohndavis"]Howard, There's one in Lincoln, NH as well. And it is for sale. If the number is correct, that is the 221, formerly Steamtown Foundation (ex-D&H) coach that languished in the North End of Riverside for many years. The other two ex-D&H cars (222, 223) were sold off when the TN&O(?) 4-6-0 was sold in 1981 to an outfit in Texas, I think. I always found the 221 interesting, glad to see it survived the Vermont Auction. Does anyone have a list of the Steamtown Foundation equipment auctioned off in Vermont in the 80's? Romi Romano |

I see the K&K had at least one other car #217 back in 2002, but I'm guessing its long gone. The car at Colonie is either Otter Creek #3 or #9, depending on which side you look at! |

Is there any chance that #217 came from the Gettysburg operation? They apparently had an Erie 2600 series Stillwell and a former B&A coach there at one point, they were once advertised for sale. David Farlow |
