In viewing some recent photos of B&HR #7 I see she has an all welded boiler, which is now removed for repairs. I am curious as to when this boiler was fabricated and by whom. I've seen comments that #8's boiler has been replaced as well. http://photos.nerail.org/showpic/?photo ... age=7&key= |

Bill, I had to check to confirm this, but No 7's boiler was built by Dillon Boiler Services Co. of Fitchburg, MA sometime in the early 1960's (all of the Edaville engines were reboilered in this same approximate time frame). http://www.dillonblr.com/open.htm The work to No 7's boiler is being performed in Alna, ME. These folks are a great example of doing a lot with a little. I know this is a common theme in preservation. I did not know the Edaville engines were reboilered in the 1960's. Thanks for the information. |

i have seen both the Monson locomotives and the B&SR locomotives in Edaville and later in Portland. I think all of them have welded boilers. This should not be a surprise especially as the Monson locos spent over a year in a rochester, New York scrap yard. Linwood Moody said that they were is such bad shape in the 1940s that the company reduced the price on them when he came after them. By the 1960 a couple of new boilers would be a certinty. I am just glad that all four of them are getting further work today. Ted Miles |
