There was a boiler explosion in that roundhouse. I found the accident report for it on the web somewhere. I forget the date but there was at least one person killed in it.

It was in 1953. I thought about the smae thing and checked it out.

Although Mr. Finch's original question involved his grandfather, circa 1919--this thread has "evolved" to the 1950's explosion. An official (Interstate Commerce Commission) report is found at the site below.
