Interesting article, especially when it says that the diesels will be replaced by a "steam engine" in 2009. Since this is Arizona, could it be that a locomotive from the Grand Canyon Railway will be running here? The article has a picture of a Heisler, so any info on what the steam motive power might be would be greatly appreciated.

The headlight and engine number indicates that the Heisler in the photograph is the one that was at the Kettle Moraine Railway in North Lake, Wisconsin. Owner Steve Butler had the locomotive running at the museum in Green Bay, apparently an arrangement that did not work out. Don't know if that engine is being moved to Globe, or if this is just a photo that was picked up to illustrate the article.

Earl Knoob reported on the NG Discussion Forum that Mr. Butler, who is also involved with the SLRG steam program in Alamosa, will be bringing the Heisler to Globe for operations there. I am of the understanding that both RR's are owned by Permian Basin Railways (forgive my spelling).

The locomotive went out of service at the museum when the time ran out on the boiler...don't know if that was a state or FRA clock that had been ticking. The engine needs a full 1472 inspection, some boiler work and lots of running gear work so as to not tear itself apart on an operation like globe. I'm sure that once Chris Zhart is done with the mechanical side of things it will be a fine locomotive ;)
