| Post subject: | GE Locomotive Truck Weight? |
Does anyone have an idea how much a GE locomotive truck such as the ones used under the 70 tonners weigh? I have a 70 tonner to move by truck and the riggers need to get the weight of the main load under 80,000 lbs. We already plan to remove the trucks but I would like to know if I have to remove any more equipment to shed more weight. Each motor generator set is around 5,000 lbs. so I can get rid of an additional 10K in weight by removing those, however thats a job I would rather avoid if I could. |

I don't know about 70 ton GEs, but on our 50 ton the trucks were about half the weight, 26 tons. |

Our trucks will either weigh as much or a bit more than those for a fifty tonner, and based on your number just taking the trucks off reduces the weight to just shy of 80,000 lbs. With the removal of the fuel tank and air reservoirs (due to clearance issues) the locomotive should ride on the trailer with no weight problems. Weight is a big issue since although its a five mile ride to our site, it involves going over truck scales on I-80. :( Thanks. |

As taken from the maintaince instruction book for GE 70 tonners the weight of a complete truck is 24,330 pounds. Merry Christmas to all. John Bohon |

138,000 lbs. minus 48,660 lbs. gets the locomotive down to 89,340 lbs. Take off the fuel tank and air reservoirs and the weight will be down enough to go on the truck. Thanks |
