Geez, next I'll show you a PRR T1 in Australia and an Amtrak electric in Sweden....... This is the Pablo Neruda National Railway Museum in Temuco, Chile. Google reveals this English travel website with a Fodor's review: "Author Pablo Neruda was Chile's most famous train buff. (Neruda spent his childhood in Temuco and his father was a rail worker.) Accordingly, the city has transformed its old rail yard into the Museo Nacional Ferroviario Pablo Neruda, a well-laid-out museum documenting Chile's rail history and dedicated to the author's memory. Thirteen locomotives (one diesel and 12 steam) and nine train carriages are housed in the round engine building. Scattered among the exhibits are snippets from Neruda's writings: "Trains were dreaming in the station, defenseless, sleeping, without locomotives," reads one wistful reflection. Exhibits are labeled in Spanish, but an English-speaking guide is on hand if you need translation. The museum lies a bit off the beaten path, but if trains fascinate you, as they did Neruda, it's worth the short taxi ride from downtown. Twice-monthly tourist rail excursions to Valdivia, using the museum's restored 1940 steam locomotive, are worth an afternoon of your time." http://www.museoferroviariotemuco.cl/portada.php Blundering my way through the various translation services at my disposal and some rudimentary knowledge of Spanish rail jargon, I'm coming up with that diesel loco having been built in Germany, along with their coaches (and I swear, the rusty pink car in the banner panning video struck me as being yet another Lackawanna MU trailer at first!)............... Still a heck of a great looking roundhouse museum, if you ask me....... |

Not PA, but a Italian built double ended broad gauge (5 ft 6in) electric. Recently repainted by EFE shops for the museum. This museum is slowly being improved and has a Alco 4-8-2 #820 servicable for short steam charters and regular tourist runs on State Owned trackage out of Temuco. Fepasa the freight hauling privatized hauler uses both diesel and electrics for power on the route from Valpariso to Puerto Montt. daleperu |
