Dear Friends-

Attached [See link below] is a copy of Ulster & Delaware’s new monthly newsletter, Day Line Express. It’s designed to appeal to anyone interested in the history of the U&D, or the U&D corridor of today, so the Society and I would be grateful if you could post it for and/or send it to your friends and colleagues also interested in Catskill Mountain railroads. Admittedly, since its meant for electronic distribution, it’s a bit small when printed out – but frankly, we worked hard to get just half the great material we had for the first issue into a modest sized PDF, something we will improve on in subsequent issues – I advise all to set their PDF viewer to ‘full page width’ for maximum readability.

Of particular interest to any card carrying member of any of any regionally recognized rail history, advocacy group or museum is the announcement and ticket reservation form for our 2008 U&D Corridor Preservation Day celebration to be held Saturday, October 11th, at Highmount and Arkville – as all card carrying members and up to three guests each can buy advance tickets at 2/3 off the regular price. The event will have lots to offer for all – including speeder rides around the famous Pine Hill horseshoe curves, a ‘genuine’ NYC Catskill Mountain branch train charter and photo special meeting another D&U train at Roxbury, a tour of the D&U’s Rip Van Winkle Flyer streamliner, the maiden run of O&W bobber caboose 8206 and a barbeque with all the fixin’s…..and all at the peak fall foliage scenery. The $10 advance ticket price is an ‘at cost’ number to the Society, BTW, so this is not meant as a fundraiser – just a gathering of all the region’s railfans for a good time with good friends. .

Special thanks for making Day Line Express issue number one such a success goes to Harold Oakhill, Ernie Hunt, Dick Makse, Evan Jenkins (who’s contribution will appear in the second issue), Chester Hartwell, Burr Hubbell, Kevin Patton and Janet Maizner…….and to Joe Marsh, Tom Healy and Fred Rasmussen for inspiring the another Corridor Preservation Day Party.

Warm regards and thanks in advance-

Doug Kadow
President
Ulster & Delaware Railroad Historical Society
