Part of this site says that someone from the Cle Elum (WA) station museum was looking into snagging one of these for display as a MLW engine: http://www.pell.portland.or.us/~efbrazi ... elect.html Is that just a rumor? Heck, anything would be better than what’s happening to them. I had no idea so many still existed down there! It wouldn't be preservation, though, as they never turned a wheel for that RR. Sure would look lovely to have one set on a piece of track in front of the platform there, though. But it's all a pipe dream anyway as it would cost a fortune just to get one up to Washington. |

Holy Cow! I'm more impressed someone quoted a King Crimson song. One of my favorite bands. These electrics were still running when I visited Brazil in 1995, but I think they only lasted a couple years longed. Surprised they are still around. |

The Paulista locos are 5' 3" gauge. This would be a complicated and expensive enough action if they were standard gauge. I'm wagering it's a rumor or fanciful thinking. |

Actually, since the Milwaukee Little Joes were built for export to the Soviet Union (5' gauge, regauging the Paulista engines (even a display hulk) would not be as hard as it might appear. Of course other alterations would be required to acheive the Milwaukee "look" including ballasting (on the roof if I recall) and other cosmetic changes. Might be real fun if they could get one to run (could creep it around on 600 volts)! Certainly no more unreasonable than rebuiling the former Uintah 2-6-6-2's for the Sumpter Valley. I don't know the folks at Cle Elum, but I have paid attention to their preservation efforts: http://www.milwelectric.org/While they have done a great job with everything I see here, they don't look like a group that has the money to buy something like that and ship it all the way to the Cascades. |

Wouldn't it be nice if they could display the MILW U25B that Portola has in Cle Elum? The 5057 was on the last train out of Tacoma in 1980. Chris |

I'm surprised the New Haven crowd hasn't taken notice of the EP-2 and EF-3B lookalikes on the dead line.... |

While we're at it, might I remind everyone that Paulista had three 5'3" gauge PA's, of which at least one still exists, and maybe two. If we're going to bring back stuff from Brazil, let's get these on the boat too. |

Quote: I'm surprised the New Haven crowd hasn't taken notice of the EP-2 and EF-3B lookalikes on the dead line.... Hey bro, I'm sure the 'New Haven crowd', as you put it, is well aware of the 'EP-2 and EF-3B lookalikes.' IMHO, the last thing the world the needs is more 'fakes and phonies' in the form of railfan camera fodder. Some of us happen to think that that the best use of (what are going to be scarce) preservation dollars is the maintenance of existing collections-not pie in the sky nonsense. Dave |

Wow, I had no idea that this engine still exists! Chris It would be really neat if you could run that on the "run a locomotive" program! Yes, it would be amazing if it could find it's way back to this area, but I sure wouldn't hold me breath on that, just like I'm sure Bi-Polar # E-2 will stay far from MLW territory in St Louis: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... -polar.jpg |

Why would the gauge have to be changed to be stuffed and mounted? Paint it up and stick it on a section of track and 99% of the visitors would never know the difference. |

I prefer not to spend the couple million dollars to bring a locomotive back from South America to create a replica of something that used to operate here. Why not just stuff and mount an HO scale model of the locomotive into a commemorative monument and save your money. If it isn't going to be the real thing does it really make much difference if it is the wrong scale too? PC |

Hopefully the 5057 will find a home on former MILW rails one day. Chris |

I heard last week that MLW 5057 is indeed heading to Cle Elum and is being readied for movement at this time: http://www.milwelectric.org/5057project/news/ |
